Prep

At St Arnaud Primary School we aim to provide a comprehensive education for all pupils in a happy, secure environment that fosters the desire to learn.

The school places the highest priority on improving the Literacy and Numeracy achievements of all children.  In fact “improving literacy and numeracy outcomes” is the priority of our current School Strategic Plan.  Resources are devoted to provide a two hour block of intensive reading and writing development, and a comprehensive assessment schedule which monitors progress and assists the classroom teachers in designing student programs.

Students receive a wide range of experiences using a variety of media in our well-equipped Arts Centre.  Parent assistance enables a variety of activities to be conducted simultaneously and provides valued assistance for our students.

Technology resources are being developed all the time. This includes upgrading and expanding the school network of student laptops, iPads, interactive whiteboards, wireless network and broadband for internet use.

All classrooms have access to computers and are networked to Internet and E-Mail facilities.  Student laptops are also networked to allow students to communicate with one another.  We are continually upgrading our computer hardware allowing a great deal of access to computers by students.  Software is carefully scrutinised so that its use fits neatly into the learning program and supplements the work of the teacher.

Health, Sport and Physical Education (PE) are an important part of our curriculum.  We have a specialist PE and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). All children are encouraged to participate in a variety of physical activities and those children with special skills have the opportunity to compete in Zone and State Championships.

The school caters for students with special needs by the tailoring of programs to meet individual requirements.  Each term parents meet with the classroom teacher to set and review learning goals which help to ensure the best outcomes for students.  Education Support staff are sometimes employed to assist with these children.

St Arnaud Primary School has excellent facilities and spacious grounds for the children to enjoy.  Our facilities and resources are continually being upgraded. The P/1/2 classes operate out of modern learning spaces – each with an additional break out space in the adjoining classroom. Our oval space is the envy of other schools and extensive shade is provided over playground equipment in the yard and in the quiet area – giving students a range of choices during their recess.

Children who enrol in our school for their Prep year are invited to attend an engaging and active transition program in Term 4.  The program gives students an experience in all areas of the curriculum whilst building their confidence as they commence their formal learning.
