About the Program
The Right Choices program is an Early Intervention Program based at St. Arnaud Primary School, St. Arnaud , Victoria, Australia. What makes it different from regular programs or other alternative programs is the wide and varied facets to the program.
In 2009 the program involves groups of students working in small groups at least once a week.
Activities included:
Gardening, environmental studies, art, music, woodwork, health and hygiene, cooking , physical education and more.
External agencies link in to the program including:
Malmsbury Youth Detention Centre, BLG [ Blended Learning Gateway], Grampians Community Health, East Wimmera Health.
We have our key major partners:
St.Vincent de Paul - foodbank, welfare support, family support, community work, grant applications, fundraising.
and St. Arnaud Neighbourhood House- Men's Shed, foodbank, welfare support, joint professional development, grant writing, working together on community issues, music.
We have other key individuals:
Visiting psychologist Ron Tallent.
Ron is now an integral part of our school and enjoys the Thursday Morning Coffee show!
He is seen here enjoying himself at the 2008 Community Breakfast.
We also utilise external agencies so that students continue to hear the same message and to tap into today's youth. Often the whole school gets to benefit from these programs although we always ensure that the programs focus on a target group or target area around the theme of ' Right Choices'.
